  1. Dear Dr. Spadaro,

My name is Melissa Gustin, and I am a research associate at the Art Institute of Chicago. I am hoping to enlist your participation in a very special project at the Art Institute, but the email addresses that we have been able to find for you have not allowed us to send you the formal invitation. In October 2013, the Art Institute will be presenting an exhibition exhibition dedicated to the insightful
collecting over the past fifty years and great generosity to the Art Institute of beloved Chicagoans, David and Celia Hilliard. Consisting principally of old master, 19th-century, and modern drawings, the selection will also include some American paintings and 19th-century French sculpture as well as some 19th- and 20th-century prints.

David and Celia (as well as Douglas Druick and I) have given considerable thought to our “dream team” for this project, and we would all be deeply grateful if you would consider contributing your
    expertise and writing on:

    Giovanni Lentini
    Italian, 1882–1955
    *The Abandoned Trenches*, 1917

We would ask you to write an entry of about 500 words, with the possibility of one or two comparative illustrations. Because of the great diversity of material, some biographical information might well be incorporated in the entry. The honorarium would be $500 per entry.

We would love to be able to include your work in this very special project, and hope to hear from you as soon as possible. If you could email me with an address that I can contact you at, it would be most appreciated.
